Salar de Uyuni en Bolivia

El salar de Uyuni , con sus 12.000 km², el mayor desierto de sal del mundo. Está situado a unos 3.650 metros de altura entre los departamentos de Potosí y Oruro, en el Altiplano de Bolivia, sobre la Cordillera de los Andes. El área que hoy ocupa este desierto, estaba cubierta hace 40.000 años por el Lago Ballivián. El Salar de Coipasa y los lagos Poopó y Uru Uru también son vestigios de este gran lago prehistórico. El salar de Uyuni tiene una superficie aproximadamente 25 veces mayor que la de las Planices de Sal de Bonneville (Bonneville Salt Flats) en los Estados Unidos.

The salar de Uyuni, with its 12,000 km², largest desert of salt of the world. It is located to about 3,650 meters between the departments of Potosí and Oruro, in the Altiplano of Bolivia, on the Cordillera of the Andes. The area now occupied by this desert was covered 40.000 years ago by Lake Ballivián. The Salar de Coipasa and the Lakes Uru Uru and lake Poopó are also vestiges of this large prehistoric Lake. The salar de Uyuni has one surface of approximately 25 times greater than the of the Planices of salt in Bonneville (Bonneville Salt Flats) in the United States.
